Shine N' Ripe- Insect Repellent Fumigation Films

Metallized, UV-reflective fumigation films with additional insect and disease control for mulched fruit and vegetable production.

Shine N’ Ripe are special designed fully metalized films, which add to the benefits of our CAN-SHINE insect repellent mulches a moisture independent barrier for fumigants according to test results published by the US-EPA, see graph below.

Fumigant Permeability

Fully metalized Shine N’ Ripe qualifies by the US-EPA as a barrier film for buffer zone credits for common soil fumigants, see
https://www.epa.gov/soil-fumigants/tarps

True High Barrier Alternative

  • Excellent Fumigant Barrier
  • Provides high level of fumigant retention at high relative humidity levels typical for mulched beds
  • No significant difference with VIF in actual field tests performed by UFL-IFAS
  • High UV reflectivity to prevent adult insects from landing and feeding on young plants
  • Consequently reducing viral or bacterial infestation
  • High PAR reflectivity to stimulate crop growth and yields
  • High IR reflectivity to moderate soil temperatures in hot climates, e.g. Florida

Controlled Insect Vectored Virus
  • Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus ( TSWV )
  • Tomato Chlorosis Virus ( ToCV )
  • Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus ( TYLCV )
  • Squash Mosaic Virus ( SQMV )
  • Cucumber Mosaic Virus ( CMV )
  • Zucchini Yellow Mosaic Virus ( ZYMV )
  • Watermelon Mosaic Virus 1 & 2 ( WMV )
  • Cucumber Aphid Borne Yellows ( CABY )
  • Papaya Ring Spot Virus ( PRSV-W)
  • Tobacco Mosaic Virus ( TMV )
  • Tobacco Etch Virus ( TEV )
  • Potato Virus Y ( PVY )
  • Potato Leaf Roll Virus ( PLRV )
Season Growth
  • Growers find that both Plant size and Leaf Density are larger due to increased lighting.
  • Soil Temperatures kept 8 – 10 F. cooler promoting continued plant and root growth... fruit production.
  • Shine N' Ripe acts as a thermal blanket, reducing high and low soil temps – less plant stress.
  • Vegetable and blossom set are higher, leading to increased yields.
  • Increased amount of vegetables that are of the same harvestable size. Less harvesting trips.
